Research projects and activities of the Symbat institute of design and technology of AHEU

The Symbat institute of design and technology of AHEU actively develops research activities, including fundamental and applied studies that contribute to growth and innovation in the field of design and technology.

• Innovative methods for improving the efficiency of technological processes in the light industry

• Development of effective garment production technologies based on research into wet-heat treatment (WHT)
• Analysis of social and aesthetic factors and development of design projects for competitive clothing
• Development of compositional and structural solutions for modern felt clothing
• Development of resource-saving and environmentally friendly technologies (zero-waste, patchwork, and design technologies) in the light industry
• Study of the causes of garment defects and development of methods for eliminating them at the design stage
• Development of regulatory and technical documentation for designing school uniforms based on standard models
• Study of Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage and its integration into contemporary design
• Improvement of ergonomic design methods for children’s clothing; development of design and technical documentation and testing of prototypes

Practical activities under contract-based projects


Within the project “Improvement of computer-aided design through integration and интеллектуализация of the garment manufacturing process”, implemented jointly with Symbat fashion academy LLP (2019–2024, budget: 1,500,000 KZT), the following outcomes were achieved:

• 12 industrial design patents
• 34 copyright certificates
• 53 research articles
• Implemented in production: 3 children’s sportswear models and 5 blouse models

Current and planned projects


Currently, the Institute’s faculty members are working on an initiative research project titled:
“Improving the protective and ergonomic characteristics of esports clothing based on analysis of the interaction within the ‘player – clothing – gaming environment’ system.”

The project was registered in March 2025 with the National center for state scientific and technical expertise.
Duration: 4 years (25.03.2025–30.03.2028).


Practical application and integration


Research results are actively integrated into the educational process. Concepts, theoretical and methodological developments, models, and provisions are included in lecture courses and are also used by undergraduate and master’s students in final qualification projects and research work in relevant fields.
